BRAIN GOD
A feature-length script by Michael Goldenberg.
Attached here is a feature script I wrote in 2022, at the peak of my post-empire insanity, called BRAIN GOD, a semi-autobiographical tall tale. Here is the logline:
Michael Goldenberg is a terminally online loser who's never left his bedroom. But when he learns that his evil doppelganger has become a beloved Hollywood star hoarding his due adoration, he sets out on an odyssey across the modern American frontier to exact righteous revenge. On himself.
I wanted to write a postmodern movie script even though at the time I did not (and still don’t) fully understand what that word means. It’s the script I’ve always wanted to write, the one I was told I could never accomplish by teachers, experts, seminars, and myself. I was very sad when I finished it. I wish I was still writing Brain God. I hope to never stop writing Brain God.
Sometimes people ask me for Brain God’s comps; similar movies or inspirations. When I was young my brothers, Ben and Harry, and our friend, Zack, wrote a whole movie script in a notebook with colored pencils called Ben-a-Ben-a-Zack. It was about Ben and Zach, the two biggest dipshits ever, having to stop the Devil from destroying the world. I was the Devil. I thought about this more than anything when writing Brain God.
It’s funny and stupid and crass and absurd and reads pretty fast. Brain God is the accumulation of all the things and people that inspire me to write, no matter how nonviable an actual production of it could be. That’s okay, like my first script, I’m happy with this one living inside a notebook forever. It’s 96 pages, most of them pretty good, and more than 3 feature someone jacking off. It’s probably not my superlative work, but it’s certainly my most galaxy-brained, sweaty, undaunted. And also my favorite. I hope you read it. My mom quit after 5 pages.
